We'll talk about the first checkpoint during episode 142, which airs 7/9.

The first checkpoint is to finish the game!  Yay!

Thanks to ereecmar for the checkpoint suggestions.

That elevator room was a total pain, until I realized that using the magical time-slow powers of the dagger makes that fight SO MUCH EASIER.

Also, I don't know if I just got really good at the game, or they were making up for that stupidly powerful Sand King boss, but the final battle against the Vizier was a piece of cake.

Oddly enough, that's the one area of the game that I didn't have any problems in.  The final boss battle was pretty easy, though.

I wasn't crazy about the game taking away the time dagger at the end, especially as the platforming got pretty crazy.  The last sword was pretty sweet, though.

I thought the ending was pretty heartfelt, at least, with the last chat the prince and Farrah have.  I'm really curious how they start the second game after that (and how the latest game starts since it starts right after this one).

I hated that elevator fight. It was so congested, I couldn't even move around. Took me around four tries. Farah died right as I was in the animation of stabbing a sandy with my dagger. And as you know, once you stab them with your dagger, the point at which you can rewind time to is set right there. Lame. That happened twice. The other two times, I died right after stabbing the fools, and when I rewound time, I didn't have enough time to block. I would rewind time over and over again, even though I knew it wouldn't help. I thrive on false hope  Embarrassed

That light puzzle you need to do to get the sword had me thinking for a long while. It's been a while since I played the game, and I thought you had to light up all the crystals on the boundaries. Took me around a half hour until I figured out there was a sun insignia.

The platforming was pretty good in this checkpoint, I must say.

I could've done without the Prince doing a strip-tease throughout the whole game, though.

omg. really? the battle in the observatory is just plain dumb. the area is so small, and the game is set up to dodge around blue sandies, and to fall off ledges. grr.

p.s. why is my camera so shy? it's always hiding behind something.

Final thoughts:

This game makes me think of the future.  In 6 - 8 years, I wonder how someone will feel about their first play through of Dead Space or Infamous. The more I played the game, the more I think it is just old, which makes me sad. I did not have fun playing this game in 2010, but I totally can see having fun playing in 2002 (or whenever it came out).

I didn't play along with TVGP this time, but I remember adoring the game back when it came out. Maybe it's best I lay it to rest...

I think this is a good example of how far games have come since this game came out. Think about it, this is one of the first game Tommy Tallarico and Victor Lucas ever gave a perfect 10 to. Gaming has come a very long way if I'm going back to a game that was a perfect 10, and feeling that it looks and sounds horrible.

Well, if it's a great game, it's a great game, and it'll stand the test of time. With games like PoP: SoT, usually a big breakthrough will make the game great in its era. The whole real-time time control was pretty unheard of in video games, and I think the video gaming community really welcomed that. Later on, that aspect of the game becomes a "been here, done that," and the game as a whole ends up being judged, when played by any individual.

Final Fantasy VII, for example, was a breakthrough in RPGs by having 3D polygons. People regard(ed) it as the best Final Fantasy or RPG of all time. I loved it back then. I started playing it again around a week ago, and man, it's hard to go back. The battles just didn't seem fun or exciting. The whole materia system got meh soon enough. Pretty weird translation. I knew all this stuff too, back when I played the game, but I overlooked it just because of how amazing it was/looked at the time.

Chrono Trigger, which is only just a little bit older than FFVII, is a great game that I can always go back to. I probably loved that it just as much as VII back then, but I've replayed CT because it was a fantastic game with little flaws (I can't even really think of any off the top of my head right now).

Then again, I've grown up with all of those games and games that were limited by their hardware. I don't really know what it's like to play a game that was before my time (or before I was born). If someone were born during the sixth-generation of video games, would our views be that radically different on say, Chrono Trigger, after they've played newer games?

Hey I'm sorry I never got around to finishing. Just got caught up with stuff and still am. I'd play it in what free time I make for myself however I am currently addicted to RISK and Dragon Age lol. PoP SoT is still one of my favorite games though so I'll finish some time.
