If you haven't played GTA 4 yet, that should be fairly cheap by now.
inFAMOUS and Prototype (especially Prototype) are favorites of mine, I would recomend them both. I'm not big on free-roaming so I don't know of many others.

If you like fighters, Super Street Fighter 4 is perfect, and in the future, try Marvel vs Capcom 3, whenever that is. I personally don't like fighters so I'm not the one for that. TVGP has recommended Blaz Blu, which is on the Playstation Network.
Also, ........... And.....
Try those...... .....

Between inFAMOUS and Prototype, I'd pick inFAMOUS. I've only really played the demo and it was pretty sweet. It got some great reviews too. Prototype was fun too, but I got pretty bored with it pretty quickly. Story wasn't so great in my opinion, and things got super hard and tedious, super fast.

SSF4 is a pretty great game, especially since it's not at the full price of a regular game. I still play it often. You should consider Blazblue too. it's great. No character is alike and Continuum Shift just came out (not full priced either).

Good sir, the story is indeed inferiour compared to inFAMOUS, but Prototype had great gameplay and a feeling that I truely was a super-human machine. Cole may jump off a building and make a nice shockwave blow up all the cars on the block, but Alex can elbow-drop off a sky scraper onto a tank, or cannon-ball into a helicopter.

It's true, Prototype and I are engaged...

You could check out Red Faction, it has a neat premise and you get to demolish buildings with a hammer that looks like an ostrich.

I would highly recommend inFAMOUS! I loved that game. In fact, it's my favorite open world game.
Also, SSF4 is a masterpiece of 2d fighting!

if the rerelease of 3rd strike is an HDremix, it will be the greatest 2D fighting game of all time in every way, handsdown. heck, 3S right now is in the top 3.

it's weird, I've been into Street Fighter my whole life, but never got into SF3. I don't know why, but I never really liked it. I played all the Alpha games, and never touched any version of 3.

Alpha 3 was totally my favorite for years! But I gotta say, SSF4 takes the cake. IMO.

InFamous is certainly the most enjoyable story out of the three that came out about that time; however, Red Faction is more fun as long as you don't get too hung up on the races. If you play Red Faction, play on EASY because the game is very inbalanced at higher levels of difficulty. The missions in InFamous become very predictable after 5 to 10 hours of doing the same thing. The same can be said for RF (and any open world game), but you never really know how a mission will play out because of all the crazy physics involved in leveling buildings. In both games, I suggest putting off finishing the campaign for as long as you can wait because it is very hard to muster the will to keep doing the same missions over and over again. Overall, I had more fun in the RF world (as long as I didn't have to drive) because I could destroy anything! RF also has a gun that can disintegrate anything - People, walls, vehicles, even wings off of planes!

I've always been a street fighter kind of guy. I think SSF4 is 2d fighting perfected. That being said, blazblue is an awesome game. It's a little more frantic than SSF4, but not too crazy to use strategy. I know, I didn't help too much, did I? Haha. And unfortunately, I own both for 360. I do very little multiplayer gaming on my ps3.

I'm a Prototype man myself, but you might check out Just Cause 2. The story is terrible and voice acting is crap, but I ahv eto say its just plain fun!

My best suggestions are Red Faction Guerrilla and Saints Row the original not sequel. I dunno I just liked the first a lot more.
